The Kinks – “Living on a Thin Line”
Genre: The Demise of Pax [insert country]
Feeling: writing a song about it weirdly suffices
People aren’t giving Trump enough credit. You do realize that his plan all along was to abdicate America’s global leadership precisely in order to fast-track our own pending wave of post-pax musicianship, right? He’s that many steps ahead, people. That’s what a stable genius does. And if the London Blitz singlehandedly supplied the lyrics to every Pink Floyd song, can you imagine what we have to look forward to from traumatized artists here in the States?
Lyric Sample:
“All the stories have been told
Of kings and days of old,
But there’s no England now.“
Editor’s note: something, something, Brexit

Dire Straits – “Once Upon a Time In the West”
Genre: thinking man’s music
Feeling: when you’re waiting in 5 block-long line for gas because of the oil embargo, but it’s OK because this song rocks!!!
Dire Straits is one of those bands where you don’t have to pretend you like a couple of their songs on the less-popular albums. They’re just that good.
Lyric Sample:
“No use saying that you don’t know nothing
It’s still gonna get you if you don’t do something
Sitting on a fence that’s a dangerous course
Oh, you could even catch a bullet from the peace-keeping force”

Ray Lamongtagne – “A Murmuration of Starlings”
Genre: artists who achieve economies of scope
Feeling: everything just slowed wayyyy down
Keeping with last week’s theme, we are staying meta. The muse has arrived – >
